Oradour
On 10th June 1944 Nazis marched on Oradour Sur Glane near Limoges France and killed 642 men women and children. Such was the timing of this atrocity it almost went unnoticed by the rest of the world as they were carried away with the euphoria of the Allied landings a few days earlier.
Today the village is a permanent memorial to the innocent men women and children who lost their lives. With the people long gone all that remains are the twisted walls that offer no protection to anyone, electricity cables that no longer have a purpose and the tram lines leading nowhere. Historical photographs, some old signs, together with the charred remnants of a few personal possessions are all that connect us to the people of this desolate village.
A village that once was so full of life.
